Holy Father,

You are King of Kings and Lord of Lords. There is no man on earth worthy of this title; and in Heaven it is reserved for the man-God Jesus Christ alone. We praise You for Your sovereignty, for Your limitless and unbridled authority and power. You speak and the earth trembles. You move and the foundations of the world shudder. The sea may roar, and the hurricane may scream and wail with power and terror that sets our hearts to quaking with fear; but the blast of Your voice brought forth the sea and storm and everything in all of Creation. The sound of Your voice drove Adam and Eve into terrified hiding; Your voice stopped Job in His tracks and sealed his over-bold lips. Your voice from Sinai struck fear and awe in the hearts of the Israelites and inspired worship and repentance. When the voice of God speaks from the fire in power and judgment, few men who hear it live to tell of it. And yet in Your holiness and omnipotence, You still bear Your children in hand with all gentle tenderness and love. The voice that splits the ground, mends the broken heart. That voice which dominates the storm, whispers peace to our souls. That voice which commanded the world into being, speaks the word “rise” to us and our souls spring to life, born-again and redeemed in beauty and holiness. How great and gracious is the Lord our God! How blessed are we, the people of His pasture.

We pray this morning for our nation as we undergo a major transfer of power this week. We pray for the safety and security of our President and President-elect and for all those in power or about to assume it. As they assume the mantle of authority that You have delegated unto them, strengthen and enable them for the job, fitting them for their purpose. Be gracious to our nation and build and sustain her for the sake of the elect, Your Church, living within her. Be longsuffering with her sin and have mercy on her, allowing the salt of Your Church to permeate and influence her for Christ’s glory. We pray for the economic turmoil in which our nation is embroiled, that in the midst of it You would continue to be the God of Comfort and Providence to Your people.

We pray for Your Church, that it would flourish in every circumstance. We ask that You would preserve and sustain Her, comforting Her in affliction, and rousing Her in complacency. Cleanse Her from Her sin and beautify Her with holiness. Discipline Her as a loving Father, seeking Her repentance and restoration, not as a tyrant exacting revenge. Love Her and cherish Her and build Her to Your glory. We pray for the men You have given the Church to lead and protect Her. Guard and sustain these men and fit them for their callings. We pray for our congregants, that we would love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind and strength, and that we would love our neighbor as ourselves. We pray for the specific needs of our local body.

All these things we pray in the Name of our Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.
